How do global excessive demands affect the individual? How do we deal with an impending loss of control? And what do our attempts look like to bring order into this constant disorder and reordering? Ueli Bichsel and Anna Frey deal with these questions. In their play “Gstört” they take on people who long for a return to a simple, clear and manageable world. Frey and Bichsel point out the mechanisms involved in general insecurity, and they counteract attempts at moral superiority over others by elaborating commonalities and unmasking self-righteous reflexes. This is best done with a good dose of humor and comedy and with excursions into the lovingly grotesque. The two manage to be entertaining and funny, while at the same time dealing with current socio-political and philosophical issues.
