Studying at the Theatre School

The School develops the talents of its students, taking into account their personality, creativity and physical constitution. The emphasis is on creating original material, and students are expected to invent characters and write sketches and dramatic material: the actor becomes author.

The purpose of the three-year bachelor’s course is to produce independent, responsible artists, able to assert themselves in the theatre world, develop a personal style and flourish in a competitive environment. The master’s course concentrates on individual creativity and the production of original dramatic material. A wide range of knowledge is imparted, some of it drawn from other theatrical disciplines.

To ensure that the training is practical, the School often organizes in-house productions performed under professional conditions. Larger-scale productions can be included in the Dimitri Theatre's programme and presented at European level.

The principal subjects covered are: dramatic improvization, dance, mime techniques (silent acting) and acrobatics. The curriculum is supplemented by courses devoted to production, rhythm, breathing, voice, interpretation, history of theatre and theory. The School regularly plays host to outstanding specialized teachers, who provide training in Commedia dell’Arte, clowning, story-telling, special forms of dance and so on.

 Admission requirements

A good level of general education, physical robustness, creative talent, curiosity and an interest in human beings and social processes. The School regularly offers courses in Italian language.
