Research at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri
At the Scuola Teatro Dimitri, research is seen as an opportunity for discussion, reflection and experimentation. Questions arising from practical work are examined with a degree of detachment from both a theoretical and practical point of view, so as to discover new applications in the performance and educational fields.
The research done at the School must never lose sight of the purpose of the training given at Verscio: movement theatre in all its forms and all its interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary and intercultural aspects.
The emphasis is on exploring the expressive possibilities of the human body, and their application to the theatre. Until now, movement theatre, physical theatre, pantomime, variety, circus and independent theatre have remained on the periphery of academic research. Examining these disciplines in the contemporary theatrical context is the primary aim of the research carried out at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri.
The School’s head of research and theory is there to coordinate and structure the research undertaken and to support current projects.
